press releases

New York, NY 6.12.02 - GestureTek Inc., the world leader in video gesture analysis for device free control of computers, in association with Wincor-Nixdorf and Charamel , is proud to announce the installation of its GestTrack™ system, for a "through window", interactive large screen shopping experience in Berlin's trend-setting department store chain, Kaufhof. With this revolutionary new technology connected to a large screen display in their retail window, Kaufhof can now enable customers who are passing by to simply point through the window to control the on screen content.

With the help of "Katrina" a very hip and friendly computer generated avatar assistant, Kaufhof shoppers are given advice and guided through the process of locating information about the different products and services the department store offers. Katrina gets the attention of passersby by talking to them and "knocking" on the glass and inviting them to come and "Gest Point" their way to an enjoyable shopping experience.

GestTrackis a stereo camera control technology utilizing a complete depth map of the real world. This enables the computer to see in 3D space and deduce the distance and dynamic movements of the participants in front of the cameras or its "eyes". GestTrack systems can be calibrated to allow the user to be any distance from the screen - inches or even several feet away.

GestTrack™ allows users to control any size screen, from giant video walls to the smallest computer monitor from any distance with simple hand gestures. Because GestTrack™ uses cameras for "eyes" it can be placed in a window display or behind protective glass, eliminating wear and tear on the screen. This also deters vandalism, eliminates greasy hand marks, and the spread of germs from multiple users touching the screen is all but eradicated.

"We are getting a great response from both our retail clients and their customers." says Vincent John Vincent, President of Gestertek. "It is the ease with which the public can use these retail windows as engaging 24-hour large screen interactive billboards that captures their interest". Besides numerous public forum installations, GestTrack's stereo analysis and control technology is applicable for desktop PCs, corporate presentations, trade shows, education, security, entertainment, industrial training, robotics, sports, fitness and rehabilitation, and more.
