GestureTek Earns Additional Patent for Video Camera Control Technology

Multi-camera gesture control protected under newly issued patent

Toronto, Ontario – July 20, 2006 – GestureTek Inc., world leaders in computer vision for gesture based control of information and entertainment systems, today announced their “Multiple Camera Control System” patent (US#7,058,204). This patent covers the entire GestPoint™ product line, and protects all multiple video camera-based hand tracking systems for control of any sized display. This is GestureTek’s second patent, having been awarded the first comprehensive “video-based interactive gesture control” patent in 1996.

Since its introduction in 2000, the public has enthusiastically embraced this futuristic technology for interactive displays. Steven Spielberg’s 2002 sci-fi move “Minority Report” helped popularize GestureTek’s concept of gesture control as the means of computer interface interaction: “the way of the future.”

GestureTek’s newly patented “multi-camera” technology based products include a wide variety of “point & click” gesture-based computer interfaces that are seen widely in retail, public displays, exhibits and corporate presentation environments. With “multi-camera” GestPoint™ products, a person can control any sized screen from any distance, simply by pointing a finger. This technology has been deployed in hundreds of installations in a multitude of kiosk, museum, location based entertainment, retail and advertising applications. GestPoint™ is also used to transform storefront windows into 24/7 interactive displays, enabling potential customers to point, through the window, to control content on large indoor display screens.

“We are thrilled to be awarded this patent, for yet another of our awe-inspiring technologies. Since inventing this technology, we have been installing the GestPoint series of products around the world, and have hundreds of installations across a myriad of vertical markets. Our products have been embraced by both Fortune 500 companies and the public alike,” says Bill Leckonby, CEO of GestureTek Inc.
