GroundFX Intrigues Club Goers at Toronto’s CiRCA Nightclub
table top interactive display

February 2008 – At its launch, CiRCA was being touted as Toronto’s premiere nightclub in a highly competitive sector. In keeping with its ultra-hip image, CIRCA was looking for an interactive display system that not only contributed to the club’s visual appeal, but also provided a fun and engaging experience for club goers.

In one of the main hallways, CiRCA decided to install GestureTek’s patented GroundFX interactive floor communication system in front of one of its ‘living-art’ installations, where performers were encased within glass windows.  The innovative visual display capabilities of GroundFX let people interact with large multi-media ads, special effects or games, using simple body motions to control the program. Images are projected from state-of-the-art ceiling mounted cameras.

When CiRCA was planning a gala party, organizers arranged for GroundFX content to reflect a specialized theme for the evening.  The final product was a dazzling interactive visual effects program that included pools of water that rippled and images that could be wiped away.  The dynamic content succeeded in enticing people to engage with the display.

“GroundFX was an attention grabber,” said Orin Bristol, General Manager for CiRCA. “At first, people just wondered what was on the floor, but when they could step on it and make things happen, they really got into it.  Club goers like things that are new and different.”
