Intel’s Interactive Table Game Featuring GestureTek’s Motion Control Technology Gets
Crowd Powered Up
May 2008 – S.N. Global Media, a New Delhi-based reseller, was working on a project for Intel with Kidstuff Promos and Events, an agency that promotes and expands the reach of various brands through the thriving market in India. The project was a three month campaign that was deployed throughout malls and IT shows across India. They were launching a promotion for the Intel Centrino Duo processor and wanted some cutting edge technology to help boost interest in this new product. They found exactly what they needed in GestureTek’s GestureFX system.
GestureFX is GestureTek’s innovative visual display system that enables consumers to interact with advertisements, games or special effects, projected onto any sized floor, wall, table or screen. Using their own body gestures to control the program, users become immersed in an interactive world. This enhances advertising effectiveness and boosts brand engagement.
The sophisticated GestureFX system features an intelligent, state-of-the-art camera-enabled body tracking system that follows the position of the body at all times, allowing for real-time interactions with custom digital content.
For the Intel project, GestureTek created an “Intel Centrino Air Hockey’ game. An image of a PC motherboard was projected onto a specially fabricated table. The digital motherboard serves as a virtual playing surface and the Intel Centrino logo serves as the air hockey puck. Two players can compete against each other, each trying to score the most goals in one minute. Every time a ‘goal’ is scored, a message promoting a particular feature of the Intel chip pops up.
To further the impact of the installation, the Audio/Visual output was sent to multiple adjacent LCD screens in order to attract passersby. The campaign was supported by promoters with microphones, who drew attention to the game and encouraged people to come forward and play.
“The GestureFX game has been a huge success and our client is very pleased,” said Sameer Narang, Director at S.N. Global Media. “The game was a fantastic springboard for Intel’s new product, adding impact to the launch and supporting a strong brand image.”
