Meteor Storm

Meteor Storm is the new Vivid Virtual Theater (V.V.T.) application that allows from two to six participants to interact both cooperatively and independently within the same virtual environment!



coop multiplayer virtual game You begin by seeing your image, and the image of your co-participants on the screen awaiting briefing on your latest mission; as your image is scanned, you receive instructions and then you're off!

You and the rest of your team find yourselves at a Moon-based space station to undergo training in the use of your hover-sleds, a futuristic form of space navigation.

Level 2

The team is suddenly overwhelmed by an incoming meteor storm. You must race back to home base, avoiding the incoming meteorites and the large craters they cause when they impact the Lunar surface.

Once at the base, you are briefed on your mission - to protect first an orbiting space station, then ultimately Earth itself from a gigantic rogue meteor. In order to be successful with your mission, the team must work independently to protect the space station against a series of small meteorites, then band together and form a barrier which will cause the giant rogue meteor to bounce off the atmosphere and ricochet back out into space. If the team fails to do so, the rogue will plunge through the atmosphere toward Earth, then hurtle into the ocean.

 

When the mission is complete your Commanding Officer informs you of the outcome, offering congratulations if you were successful, or letting you know that you need more practice before taking on your next mission.

How Does It Work: Participants step in front of a blue screen, facing a video camera / video monitor setup which takes their image, digitizes it, and places it within the virtual world. Two cameras and a single customized system allow each player to act independently while still permitting the software to grant cooperative action within the environment. The unencumbered, full-body aspect of the interaction allows players to see the complete body images of themselves and their co-participants within the game, enhancing the experience and making it more realistic and engaging. The virtual world recognizes the entire body of each participant as the point of interface, allowing them to interact using their whole body.
