June 2008 – Sense is one of Iceland’s leading service providers in the field of information technology, offering a wide range of services from IT consulting and administration, software and hardware provision and technical services.

When Sense was tasked by the Hellisheidar Hydrothermo Power Plant to create a spectacular interactive display for their Visitor’s Center, they turned to GestureTek’s Illuminate Display as a blueprint for the project.  The resulting custom installation now enjoys the distinction of being one of the grandest and most visually appealing surface computing screens in the world.

GestureTek’s mesmerizing Illuminate Display uses sophisticated camera and projector technology to place a digital image onto a rear-projection glass panel.  With the technology completely hidden from view, a patented hand tracking system detects the position of the users’ hands as they approach the display screen.  Pointing or gesturing at the surface of the screen enables the user to have precise gesture controlled interaction with dynamic digital content.

The huge 3.3m by 2.5 m glass panel is built right into the plant’s wall.  Hand tracking cameras have been positioned to create a full size, massive tracking field that can be accessed by multiple users.  The educational display projects a giant map of each step in the process used in geo-thermal hydro electric generation.  Users can point in front of various icons to retrieve different pieces information from the menu-based interactive presentation.
