Oct 16 2007

TORONTO, ON – (October 16, 2007) – GestureTek Health - a division of gesture-recognition pioneer GestureTek Inc. – today announced its sponsorship of the ‘Best Student Paper’ award at Virtual Rehabilitation 2007 in Italy, Europe’s premier virtual reality conference for the healthcare industry.  The award recognizes student research and achievement in the area of virtual rehabilitation.
The winner of GestureTek’s first-ever ‘Best Student Paper’ Award for 2007 was Andrea Turolla for her paper on ‘Reinforcement feedback in virtual environment versus conventional physical therapy for arm motor deficit after stroke’.  Co-winners included P. Tonin, C.S. Zucconi, M. Agostini, F. Piccione, M. Dam, and L. Piron.
“Andrea’s paper was selected from a record number of submissions, which reflects a growing interest and awareness in this unique area of healthcare,” said Ron Kelusky, President of GestureTek Health.
Kelusky affirmed GestureTek Health’s commitment to advancing the science of virtual rehabilitation through research as well as through the commercialization of the many unique gesture-controlled applications that have been developed by researchers throughout the globe.
“Our continued research in the development of three-dimensional camera software and interactive immersive technologies, combined with the growing support of the research community, will enable the development of new and innovative technologies for both the clinical and home environments,” added Kelusky.
