TORONTO, ONTARIO – GestureTek Inc. - world leader and patent-holder in camera-enabled gesture interfaces for interactive displays - today launched its revolutionary new AirPoint System, and announced the first installation for Fortune 500 client, Shell Group. AirPoint is a compact hand-tracking unit that allows users to control interactive multi-media content on any computer or display screen by making simple hand motions above the unit. No interface device is required.
Imagination, a global design and communications agency representing Shell, approached GestureTek after several successes with GestureTek’s leading-edge point and control technology for other clients, including Ford, Samsung, Bell Canada and the Singapore Infocomm Development Authority. Imagination was looking for the latest innovation in gesture interface technology. The new, ultra-modern AirPoint system was ideal for Shell’s tradeshow booth, offering a sleek, streamlined design that fit perfectly with the futuristic, minimalist look that Imagination was striving for. AirPoint made its debuts at the Dubai Airshow and at the World Energy Congress in Rome, where the system allowed event attendees to interact with dynamic multimedia presentations simply by pointing. “Judging by user response, AirPoint is the new gold-standard for display technologies,” said Peter Brooks, Head of Production Technology at Imagination. “Increasingly, clients are demanding portability and flexibility in their point and control technologies, and AirPoint was created with that in mind,” says Vincent John Vincent, President of GestureTek. “Its small, streamlined design makes the technology unobtrusive and helps give displays a futuristic feel. 
Measuring approximately 12” x 3” x 5”, AirPoint is small enough to carry in a laptop bag, making it the ideal tool to captivate audiences during boardroom presentations. While AirPoint’s small size lends itself to intimate venues such as showrooms, presentation centers, conference rooms, boardrooms and offices, the system is powerful enough for any large trade show, exhibit or public display. AirPoint interfaces with any sized screen, delivering precise computer control regardless of its distance from the display. Configured for plug and play usability, the system is highly reliable and is designed to respond to the subtlest of gestures, for pixel by pixel control in all lighting conditions.
