GestureTek CTO to Highlight Advances in Public Display Technology at Interactive Displays Conference

Apr 20 2010

Sunnyvale, CA (April 20, 2010) – GestureTek, the world leader in gesture control interfaces for interactive displays and devices, announced today that company CTO and co-founder Francis MacDougall will present a session on the advances in multi-user public display interaction at 9:45 a.m. PDT on Thursday, April 22 as part of the Interactive Displays 2010 Conference in San Jose, CA.

The session, titled "Advances in Public Display Interaction," will address some of the exciting new technologies being integrated with gesture-based public display technologies to engage visitors, build anticipation for product launches and events and attract visitors to public venues, including:

  • Multi-touch and multi-point interface innovations that allow more than one individual to interact with a display simultaneously;
  • Interaction of 3D depth sensing cameras that can identify and track display users, offering more options for total-body immersion and new forms of interaction from a distance with large screen displays.

The presentation will highlight a recent installation of GestureTek's interactive display technologies on a new ride at a major theme park in Japan.

"Gesture-based public display technologies are incredibly powerful for drawing attention, creating buzz and getting the public engaged," MacDougall said. "Advanced, emerging technologies are making it even more accessible for multiple individuals to have an immersive experience with a long-lasting ‘wow-factor' that maintains top of mind awareness and engagement long after the individual has left the proximity of the display."

MacDougall, who co-founded GestureTek in 1986, drives the technology strategy for the company, leading the R&D and production teams, as well as all patenting and licensing activities. MacDougall developed and patented the company's core single camera gesture control technologies and led the creation of the application development engine, tracking engines and numerous other capabilities that form the base of GestureTek's product offerings.

He is a specialist in real-time system design and has experience spanning low-level embedded architectures incorporating ASIC and DSP solutions, communication systems design, network audio/video transport, image processing and computer vision, as well as high-level implementations under consumer and commercial architectures. MacDougall is a creative force in technology and product development and excels at finding the rapid path to creating marketable solutions for next generation user requirements.
