Inwindow Outdoor Promotes Horror Flick Coraline with GestureTek’s Gesture Recognition Technology for Digital Interactive Windows

April 2009 - Inwindow Outdoor (inwindowoutdoor.com) created its most dynamic and largest-ever interactive digital window outdoor advertising campaign to promote the release of the animated stop-motion horror fantasy film, Coraline. This EYE-POPPING promotional campaign was launched in 7 cities, at 14 locations, and used a variety of technologies, including video, audio, gesture, holograms and augmented reality. Figuring prominently in the interactive experiential display was GestureTek’s award-winning, multi-patented video gesture control software, which allows users to interact with the motion-detecting interactive window display by using hand and body gestures.

GestureTek’s video based image control system, body tracking software and sophisticated cameras on the window power the ‘Parent Mirror’ application, where the movements of passers-by cause fog on the window to clear away and reveal parents pleading for help. GestureTek’s immersive ScreenXtreme technology can even put people’s real-time dynamic image right into the heart of the display.  Other technology from Total Immersion detects the position of the viewer’s eyes and replaces them with a visual of two buttons.  The result onscreen is a scary, ‘eyeless’ reflection of the user that stares back from the window.

”GestureTek is proud to be a contributor on Inwindow Outdoor’s colorful, head-turning digital storescapes,” says Vincent John Vincent, President and Co-Founder of GestureTek.

“Our business has grown exponentially since launching the Coraline campaign,” says Steve Birnhak, CEO of Inwindow Outdoor. “Both individuals and organizations are increasingly recognizing the power of integrating great creative with innovative technology.  What’s more, the research proves that interactive and experiential advertising can boost ad recall and brand recognition."

Recent studies support the effectiveness of the Inwindow/GestureTek approach to interactive advertising.  Research conducted by OTX found that 63% of adults find that digital signage advertising “catches their attention” and is more unique (58%), more interesting (53%) and more entertaining (48%). Digital out-of-home media is particularly effective at reaching 18 to 34 year olds, with the vast majority having recently noticed digital signage.  A recent InfoTrends study found that digital displays have a 47% effectiveness on brand awareness, and create an approximate 30% increase in sales volume, average purchase amount and visitor traffic.

Expect to see gesture control in interactive advertising displays on windows, digital signage and outdoor billboards take off as more companies such as Inwindow, DynaMedia, Pattison Outdoor and others turn to GestureTek’s technology.
