The Cube Portable Interactive Floor and Other Gesture Control Technologies

The IPG Emerging Media Lab is a Los Angeles based think tank, a physical space, and a collection of resources designed to help marketers drive successful digital initiatives. GestureTek’s portable Cube™ turnkey plug and play floor projection unit and ScreenXtreme immersive interactive visual display system are just two of the innovations that IPG Lab features in their technology showroom.

Executives at IPG Lab were first introduced to GestureTek as CES, where they became inspired with gesture-control as the way of the future for interacting with content.  They embraced the concept of ‘mixing up’ the tradition marketing channels to capture customers’ attention and expand the reach and effectiveness of cross-platform marketing campaigns.

“The idea of a no-touch interface is appealing, not only because it is a very natural form of display interaction but also because it is hygienic, which is becoming increasingly important to people,” says Lori Schwartz, Senior Vice-President and Director of Emerging Media at the IPG Lab.

“It’s really all about putting the power of advertising content into the hands of the consumer, to enhance their overall experience with and connection to the brand,” adds Sonya Rosas, Digital Out of Home Strategist for the IPG Lab. “When you give people the ability to manipulate information on screen, or to actually see their image in the heart of the advertisement, which is the premise behind Screen Xtreme immersive technology, you exponentially increase the ability of the brand to make a lasting impression in the hearts and minds of consumers.”

The IPG Lab’s next big project is the opening of a ‘retail store of the future’, a showroom featuring all the latest in retail technologies, set up to simulate an actual retail store. GestureTek’s products will be among the many technologies to be integrated into the venue.

“The IPG Lab is excited about the possibilities that gesture control technology can offer, particularly with practical advertising applications, for example way-finding, mobile device interaction, product research, contest and promotion management, controlling in-store traffic patterns and customer transaction management,” says Scott Susskind, Chief Technology Officer for IPG Emerging Media Lab.
